Antique Bronze Aesop’s Fable Story Fox & Grape Art Sculpture Pocket Watch Holder, Jewelry Stand. Very unusual this theme in a Pocket Watch Display and be hard pressed to find another.
“The Fox & the Grapes”
A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox’s mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.
The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.
Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.
“What a fool I am,” he said. “Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for.”
And off he walked very, very scornfully.
There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
No Pocket Watch included. Looks and feels bronze with wonderful applied Patina that has a glossy look but this could be brass also, metal is nonmagnetic. Very well made and so cool this pocket Watch Hutch.
Measures 7 3/4″ tall, base/ tray is 4 1/2″ wide and 3 1/4″ deep. Wolf sits 3 1/4″ tall to top of snout. Weight is nice at 1 1/2 pound. This can be used to hand something other then a pocket watch. Has two hooks but center one seems to work with my pocket watch pictured and not included. Outside hook is little pointy. see two flat head screws underside holding Wolf and double nuts holding tree, Almost looks all one piece.
Preowned with average wear with metal oxidizing, scratches, scuffs, imperfections from making process, nice Patina and looks great!
