Old globe sits in cradle of an adjustable floor stand with black cast iron base. Globe sounds metal with paper covering. The stand telescopes up 17″-18″, in down position total height of globe is around 52″ and in open position height is close to 70″. Stand base is removable and has diameter close to 18″ and weighs a hair under 25 pounds. Center bar is 27″ long and removable globe slip-in bracket is 19 1/2″ across, the bracket and bar together weigh a hair under 7 pounds. Globe has between 15″ – 16″ diameter and globe weight with the attached bracket is around 10 pounds. Base reads RAND MCNALLY & Co. PAT APP’D FOR.
I purchased this and had it shipped to me and the base was damaged. Piece broke off so I used JB welded then Painted the stand with similar black paint so damage it solid and blends in good thus the no packing or shipping by me. Cast iron is hard fix so I got lucky cause the base looks good and very lucky shipping damaged wasn’t worse.
Condition, of globe is rough with mold spots around and probably used in a class room and looks like the kids used marker and traced on around the globe, kids will be kids.
Guessing made 1920s – 1940s. Cool Old Floor Globe!!
