Cool Old 1800’s The Wells & Newton Co. New York NY. Gauge, for use on Ships Engine Room, Locomotive or other. What’s unusual about this gauge is the brass ring looks pretty nice as face does and not all corroded. Black case which is magnetic shows its wear and tear but would clean up nice with little black paint.
The brass ring unscrews and removes easily. Glass has chipping all around the edges but is intact. Glass is little loose in unit and I’m not tightening ring down.
Has the famous “STAR BRASS MFG. CO. Non- Corrosive Boston Makers Mark with Reg. US. Pat Off, 8 1/2 inch, PAT. JULY 30, 1889, JANY 5, 1892, JULY 4, 1893 numbered 229 745.
Untested. Brass outer rim has 10 1/4″ diameter, back plate has 10 3/4 diameter, and gauge is 3” deep. Unit is over 9 pounds and may would suggest cause of weight the inside is complete. All others I’ve seen, most are smaller and much lighter in weight then this one but I’m not going to attempt to take it apart.
Guessing made late 1800’s. Cool Find. Please check pictures for description and condition.
