This looks identical to the Maine traps but is not marked. Look in good usable condition if you wanted you wanted to catch a few lobsters! Unusual push wooden slat release to open. Has its splits, cracks, nicks, scratches, scuffs, nice Patina and looks great. These half rounds they make a base cradle for top rounded part so its upside down, then make a table top for the flat bottom and use them as a coffee table, seen them stand them on end and make end table.
Measures 29” long x 24” wide and x 14 1/2″ high. Weight is heavy at 17 pound.
Found a little fun info on the making process a half rounds. This could or could not of been how this one was made but it sure looks like old seasoned white Oak. These used half round lobster traps are the real old style that were fished back 50 years ago. The traps are made by steaming the oak and bending it to form. They are made out of oak with the handknit nylon heads inside.
Guessing around 50 years old.. Look great in any nautical Decor! Please check pictures for description and condition.
