Measures 8″ tall and 7 1/4″ tall with out top on, has close to 5″ widest diameter. Weight is nice at little over 3/4 pound with top. This Jar or vase is signed on bottom and seems to be dated 93. Reads Bacon. Guessing Norman Bacon cause it does look like his cool work. Also from what I read he is from Woodstock which is local and the Raku pottery was purchased local. Found some fun reading on Norman Bacon at bottom of page.
(After a thirty-year career starting in 1970, his life took a radical change moving on to other creative adventures. His art is a mixture of spontaneity and control, perfection and imperfection. Each piece he created is a unique, artistic expression, bringing clay, fire, water, and air together. Norman started his career in ceramics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the late sixties. His work with the raku process began in 1979. The Raku process consists of rapid firing and cooling, which transform clay objects into natural works of art. The resulting piece has colors and textures that cannot be duplicated.)
The lidded jar came with the top but may not be original to the piece, it sure looks it though, lid has hole in bottom from making process and interestingly shaped. This piece is unusual most of Bacons works are signed but not many dated. This older work is closing in on 30 year old and dated. Has its scuffs and scratches and still looks great!
Made 1993. Cool Old Raku Vase!!! Have other Raku pottery also.
